OIL LEASES
TRIAL OF EX-MINISTER. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) WASHINGTON, Nov. 28. The Government scored an important point in the prosecution of Doheny and Fall, in the Court’s decision to permit the presentation of evidence taken before the Senate Committee, 1923-1924. This ruling spread on record the vital testimony regarding the secrecy surrounding Doheny’s thousand dollar loan to Fall, and the transfer of the sum in cash from New York to Washington, in a little brown bag. The repeated denials of Fall that he received the money from Dohony, and his admittedly untrue assertion that he received it from McLean, a Washington newspaper publisher. The evidence was admitted following strenuous objections by the defence, after which the Government counsel read to the jury the salient circumstances of the oil scandal investigation.
