CHRISTCHURCH RATES HIGHER Press Association.) Prices at the fourth wool sale of the season showed a considerable improvement to-day. The market was buoyant and competition animated, making the sale the best of the series. Continental buyers were active throughout, and bought heavily. Bradford was also active, but the prices, were too high for the local mills, and they were unable to operate to any great extent. The entry was the product of late shearing .in the back country, and many lots suffered in brightness. The wool was sandy and heavy. Wool scouring firms competed keenly throughout for pelt mongering lots. Out of 14,481 bales, only 228 were passed. Of this number 129 bales were in the last catalogue, mostly merino Merino prices increased by lid to 2d per lb., Corriesades improved Id to lid; Crossbreds were up Id to lid on February figures, and super halfbreds sold to Id better in other grades. Halfbreds increased slightly more, and coarse halfbreds improved a fraction. A more marked advance took place in three-quarterbred, which was Id better than February. The following was the range of prices: Merino 64.70, 60.64; extra super to 21'sd, super ISd to 18yd, average 15jd to 171 d, inferior 12d to 141 d. Corriedale, £uper ISd to 19yd, average 15d to 17R1, inferior lid to 14d. Fine halfbred 58, 56.8, 56, super 17R1 to 20d, average 15d to 17d, inferior 12d to 14Ad. Medium half bred 50.56, 50. Super 161 d to ISd, average 141 d to 16d, inferior lid to 131 d. Coarse halfbred 48.50, super 15d to 16d, average 121 d to 141 d, inferior 101 d to 12d. Fine crossbred 46.48, super, 14d to 151 d, average 12d to 13Ad, inferior lod to llld. Medium crossbred 44.46, super 121 d to 131 d, average lid to 12d, inferior 91d to 191 d. Coarse crossbred, 40.44, super ll|d to 12Jd, average lOd to 11. Inferior Sd to 9RI. Bellies and pieces, merino, good to super 13d to 15Ad, merino low to medium lOd to 12Ad, pieces halfbred good to super 121 d to 15 Jd, halfbred low to medium, 9d to 12; bellies, halfbred, good to super 10R1 to 121 d; half bred, low to medium, 81d to lOd; bellies and pieces crossbred, good to super, 9Jd to Hid; crossbred, low to medium, 7d to 9d: crutchings, medium to good, 7d to BJd; interior and seedy 5d to 6RI.
