TOURIST’S PARIS MODEL
CLAIM AGAINST LAUNDRY DID ANOTHER WOMAN WEAR IT? (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 4. In the Magistrate’s Court, Beatrice Davison, an English tourist, claimed £l6, from the Victoria Laundry, being the price of a georgette frock purchased in Paris and now alleged to have been spoilt while in the laundry’s custody. Plaintiff, in evidence, said that she sent the garment to the depot to have some spots removed. When returned the frock still bore the marks. It was sent back, and was not seen again for ten days. Then it was in such a condition that plaintiff refused to wear the garment, which had other marks on it, and apparently had been worn by someone. Replying to counsel for the defence, plaintiff denied rushing into the depot and abusing people there, and calling the manager a fool, with the result that he ordered her out of the place, though she admitted that she called some of them fools. He mav have been included.
Plaintiff added that a girl in the shop was rude to her and did not seem to have much sense. In the course of exchanges, counsel for the defence hinted that plaintiff’s statements regarding the laundry office girl .might lead to a suit for libel. The case was adjourned till Alonday next.
