FRENCH SOCIALISTS

ATTITUDE TOWARDS GOVT.

(“Times” Service.)

LONDON, June 26.

“The Times’s” Paris correspondent states: The final result of the Socialist Party’s referendum, to decide whether or not it should continue to support the Government, left the Party evenly divided.

Three motions were submitted. The first, favouring a rupture, scored sixtytwo votes. ’llie other two, the terms ol which did not 'commit the party to a definite rupture, obtained sixty-four. Judging by Press comments, Air. Chamberlain’s speech appears to have created an excellent impression in Paris, where it is hailed as a proof of Britain’s determination to keep strictly to the spirit and letter of the Peace Treaties.
