RUGBY FOOTBALL
ALL BLACKS’ TOUR. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 8. A special meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union this evening decided to accept the invitation of the English Rugby Union to play a senes of matches in Britain, and two m France. The terms agreed upon are : —The team is to leave New Zealand at the end of July 1924, and arrive in England on September 1. After a week’s rest it will play thirty matches, 28 in Britain, and two in France. There will be one week s rest between the test matches. The players will receive no allowance. The English Union has decline New Zealand Union’s suggestion for three shillings a day allowance. Though it is not officially stated, this may have the effect of limiting the choice of players to single men. It is also believed that the it nerary will include matches against England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
AMATEUR STATUS.
LONDON, November 7. Last year the Newport Rugby Club, as a mark of the team’s invincible record made gifts to the players with the Welsh Rugby Union’s consent. The Scottish Rugby Union has new created a football sensation by informing Neil Macpherson, ex-captain of Newport, that unless he returns the gift, he may not be considered again in Scotland, for which be hast played six times.
