ANNUAL RAM FAIR..

CHRISTCHURCH, March 23.

The annual ram lair was commenced to-day with the sale of a flock of rams. ’J-here was a very large entry considerably in excess of requirements and prices were low and passings frequent, particularly long wools. An over supply of Corriedales orought values back considerably on those secured last year. Halfbreds were in a shade better position. English Leicesters sold weakly. Borders were better but Romneys and Lincolns were unwanted. By far the best demand was for Downs, practically all offering selling at fairly .satisfactory prices. The top prices w’ere English Leicester 6 guineas, Romneys 2 guineas, Lincolns 1 guinea, 9 guineas, Border Leicester 9 Southdowns 9 guineas, Falf-bred.s 7 guineas, Merinos 3 guilds, Sliropshires 9 guineas. Bidding was keen. . , ; About eighty per cent of the oata-; logues have Been sold. Grade -wools were slightly lower. Coarse and inferior wools wero on a par with tlie February sales. Lambs’ wool contain- • ing seed was about Id lower. The highest prices so far are 14jld to 15$d for super halfbred.
