TELEPHONE CHARGES
RUMOUR AHEAD OF FACT 'Special to the Star.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Speaking at Ashburton last night, Hon. J. G. Coates (Postmaster General), said that it was true that the Department was investigating the whole system of telephone charges, but rumour had got ahead of fact. Ho had not yet received a formal report and no decision had been come to by himself or Cabinet. THE ENGLISH SERVICE. COMMITTEE’S RECOMMENDATIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, March 22. The select committee on the telephone service recommends the separation of telegraph and telephone departments from the mails department, also an immediate reduction of 10 per cent, of the telephone subscribers’ account. The committee also recommends that residential •-telephones be lower than commercial, with a rebate to largo commercial users. /
