SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

IN AID OF CLASS ROOM. METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL. Wesley Hall was comfortably filled last evening on the occasion of the concert in a.d of funds for the Infant class room of St. Paul's Methodist (Sunday School. Rev T. J. Waliis occupied the chair. Prior to the concert the Battalion Band played several selections in front of the Hull, which were much enjoyed, and for which the officers of the Sunday School tender the band their cordial thanks. All the items were very well accepted by the appreciative audience that had gathered. The conceit opened with selections by Cottle's orchestra Aviiich were welt received and for which the orchestra had a well merited ■s encore. Mr. Jackson on h.s one-string violin made a decided hit. Mr. Turtill with his comic song captivated the house, especially the juvenile portion. Mr Dale sang "Roses' 1 in good voice. Mrs. Drewett, a newcomer to the district from Kaiapoi, proved her worth as a singer in "Beloved, it is Morn," for which she had to respond to an encore. Mr. F. Smith, sang ''Sally in Our Ally" in his usual finished style, and had to return in response to the applause. Another fine item which took well with the juveniles was the comic item of Mr. Smith and Mr Collins and in response to, an encore, Sir. Smith gave a recitation. Mr. Patterson recited "The Honey Bee and the Flower," and in response to an encore gave "The "Way that Lovers Use." Mr. Jackson gave another selection on his violin, and Mrs. Dale sang "On Miami Shore,' for which sne well deserved her recall. Mr. H. Smith, superintendent, thanked all those who had assisted, and especially Mr. J. Whitburn for organ ; sing {Tie effort: The sinking of the 'National Anthem brought a successful evening's entertainment to a close.
