SAILOR'S REST SOCIAL.
The Social held in the Sailors' Rest on Tuesday was well attended a large number of men from «the vessels r. port being present. The programme was very good. Several friends, who had taken' part before, helping. , The following programme was gone through:!—songs, Misses E. Smitiii, Walsh, Vcallie, and N. Taylor. Recitations Mrs Balti op, E. Taylor, and Guinness. Violin solos Messrs Gandlo and Bentle. A pleasing feature of the evening was when one of the sailors volunteered to give a song which was encored and appreciated. The Committee are always pleased when seamen take part. The Aev. Mr Anderson made a most efficient Chairman. Mrs Gaskin spoke some cheering words to the men. One of the guests on behalf of those present thanked the committee for providing such a pleasant evening and also for having rooms where they can spend a quiet hour. Refreshments wero then handed round and enjoyed by those present.
