ROSS GOLDFIELDS LIMITED.

A meeting of directors in the above Company was held at Hokitika on Tuesday evening.After a considerable discussion, it was resolved to submit terms on which the Company would be prepared to supply 500 or more horse power for the purpose of working tnc Riniu flat. Mr H. M. Smyth, the Company's Engineer, reported that Upjohn and Party are making satisfactory progress with their contract in connection with the pipe line at Kanieri Forks. The Engineer also reported that Mr Jones, the foreman of works for -Messrs Maben and Walsh, contractors, had the whole of the poles erected from Hokitika to the site of the power house at the Forks, and would immediately commence the erection of the line from Hokitika to Ross. Mr J. Grimmond, the director at Ross, reported that 2,16 feet of the open cutting at the outlet to the adit had been cleaned out and reconstructed and timbered where necessary, and that 1,651 feet of the tunnel had been cleaned out and re-timbered. About 1900 feet of the work remained to bj done to enable the chamber at the 90foot level in tho old Ross Flat to be reached. Mr Grimmond further stated that the men employed in the undertaking were doing good work. He also reported that Rao and party wore pushing on with the work of levelling the site for the shaft, and it should be completed this month. It was resolved that as soon as this contract is finished, that steps should be taken to commence sinking tho main pumping shaft down as far as the adit or water level. Smyth reported that Mr Benzoni, District 'Railway Engineer, had gone over the nroposed route of the transmission line alone; the railway to.
