WHITE DROSS LECTURE.

Mr Bligh’s second lecture on the “Perils of Impurity” attracted a largo audience of men and youths at the Opera House last night. Archdeacon York presided. For over an hour the lecturer succeeded in rivetting the attention of Ids audience, and during that time imparted some very excellent and necessary advice on a subject, the delicacy of which often prevents the instruction being given. Daring a seven years’ lecturing tour for the White Cross Society of Australasia, Mr Bligh lias had considerable experience of tb« difficulties and temptations which beset the youth entering on manhood, and he has been able to help many by his lectures and by private and personal talks. That his lecture was appreciated last night was evincodby the rounds of applause which greeted its termination, and the anxiety evinced to become members of the White Cross Society, and to mtr. chase the literature which Mr Bligh distributed. The visit to the West Coast was made on the recommendation of the late conference of the W.C.T.U., and at the in. vitalion of some of the clergy, and has entailed a considerable loss on the part of the lecturer, who stated last night that unless the deficit was made up to him in some way he would he prevented from visiting similar places, so that it is hoped that those who have benefited by the lecturer’s advice will hoar this in mind. Mr Inspector Smith moved a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer, and suggested the formation of a branch of the League in Greymbuth, both of which proposals were enthusiastically received, and carried by acclamation, Nearly one hundred young men signified their intention of joining, and a meeting will he held next Tuesday at seven o’clock in Trinity Hall to form a branch of the Society hero.
