EXCURSIONS FOR WORKERS
BY R AILWAY DEPARTMENT (Per Pres a Association) Christchurch, March 18. Workers’ excursions oin line similar to those run for farmers are planned by fhe Railway- Depart in nf. Proposals in connection with the scheme have been submitted to. the executive officers of West Coast workers’ organisations and have bet mi. given a favourable reception. Air F. Patvson, business agent for the railways, who is responsible for the project, has also, approached the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, which has supplied each affiilinted body with a copy of the communication received from him.
Should the innovation prove successful it may be extended t° several centres in the Canterbury and West Coast railway district. It is .proposad at the outset to transport a. party of workers from West.port and Grey-mouth t n Christchurch and Dunedin on a. five-day trip and by the use of motor-buses to give them an opportunity' of making a tour of these centres. Mr H. E. Holland, ALP., advanced the proposal that fhe Railway Department, should organise workers’ excursions in Parliament last session.
