A MATTER FOR INQUIRY
THEIR OPERATIONS IN
NEW ZEALAND
"This matter is being inquired into by the Commissioner of Taxes under the provisions of section 102 of the Land and Income Tax Act, 1916," stated the Prime Minister in reply to a question by Mr J. Vigor Brown, M.P., as to whether he had noticed that the firm of Armour and Co., Australasia (Limited)— capital £20,----000, 4000 shares of £5 oach—had been registered on October 3, 1010, Mr W. Cannery being allotted 39'JS shares, Mr W. J. Kingdon one, and Mr 0. T. Alpers one. "Armour s* stated the hon. member, "have four freezing companies in Now Zealand, with a registered capital of £20,000. This company, with comparatively such a small capital, may be formed with the view of avoiding New Zealand taxation. It seems that the enormous transactions that are carnod on by this company cannot be done on a capital of £20,000, and the Government should do something to introduce taxation to cover such concerns in some different way than is done at present."
