CORRESPONDENCE. Sir Jas. Wilson, asking Council to accept from him two water colours ot the first- surveyors going up tho Orou-i river. Public Works Department, stating that the terms of the Council's resolution in connection with the installation of hydro-electric* power have been noted. Mayor of Hokitika, forwardmg copy of resolution passed on the third anniversary of declaration of war, Hokianga County Council, asking Council's co-operation in obtaining amendment to 'The Rating Amendment Act, 1913." N.Z. Counties' Association, forwarding counsel's opinions. TREASURER'S REPORT. Riding Accounts.—All dr., Taonui riding £'1287 10s fid, Raumanga riding £'846 os lid, Makino riding £667 IDs lid. Rangitawa riding £722 10s 3d, Hiw'imii riding £682 19s Bd, Otangaki riding £1093 Is, Mangaono riding £53 19s 3d. Bank balances.—General account, dr., £4768 18s 4d; interest account, dr., £1400 lis 7d. RATE ROLL. The following alterations were made to the rate roll: A. L. Dernier to L. Chalander, R. Harper to E. R. Bridge, J. Walker to W. M. Gunn, J. King to J. Darragh, Mrs E. Heald to Nathan and Co., Geo. Allman to Mrs Dudding, W. Page to H. S. Coinfoot, C. Cowdrey to P. Green, P. E. Eichler to C. Cowdrey, P. Green to W. C. and J. C. Christian, O. Milieu to H. Smith, W. J. Daub'n to S. Freeman. OVERSEER'S REPORT. Makino Riding.—The gravelling of Kimbolton road is now being attended to, also the Makino junction, Mangaone, and Spur roads. The contractor for the Kimbolton road has asked for an increase in wages for his teams. I should like instructions how to act. Mangaono Riding.—l am putting 10'J yards of gravel on Lethbridge's road. I have had the watertables and water outlets cleaned out on this road. The gravelling of the FeildingHalcombe road will be attended to as soon as Lethbridge road is finished. Rangitawa Riding.—Very little has been done in this riding during the month. The surface man has been assisting in making the new roadway on the Tokorangi road. This and the bridge are now finished. Raumanga Riding.—Owing to so much wet weather and the road boing cut up rather badly, I advised the contractor to leave his gravelling contract for the Makino road for a timo. 1 propose to finish this contract later. Thd road in the Rev Ren block is in rather a bad state at present, and I am having a few slips cleared away so as to make the road passable. I intend giving the Junction road some attention, as the men are now avairable.

. Taonui Riding.—The surface men have done all that was required in tlii,.- riding during the month. I. should like instructions as to whethei it is advisable to go on further with the gravelling on Reid's lino and Nanestead's road. There are about 300vds required on ench road The teams aro available just now and 1 could lot both the roads by contract and make use of the gravel pit on Nanestead's road.

Hiwinui Riding.—The surface man has' done all required in this riding also during the month. I find that the Palmers ton-Napier road is cutting un again, and the pot holes should bj attended to. A few days with a team should do all required. Otangaki Riding.—Very little has been done in this riding during the month. A little patching is required on the Peilding-Ashhurst and Palmer-ston-Napier roads.
