EARLY CLOSING.

POSITION OF HOTELS

The details of the Earlier Closing of Hotels Bill have not yet been finally decided by Cabinet (says the Post), but the indications are that th:,o proposal will be from 'J a.m. to 7.30 or 8 p.m. At the present moment there is a majority of quite 20 in tho House in favour of 0 o'clock closing. It hart been suggested that the Hill, being a National Government Rill, will go Ui rough in the form in which it is produced. That is not tlio case. Licensing matters are regarded as being altogether outside party questions, and every member will he regarded as free to vote according to his own dsires. At the prosent moment the evidence'is accumulating in favour of G o'clock closing. The quest ion has been raised as lo how-any alteration of the law will affect "Bellamy's," the refreshment saloon of Parliament. It may be stated at once that the spirit of Parliament is that Bellamy's shall do whatever other vendors of liquor are required to do under the law. We very much doubt the conclusion in the latter sentence arrived at by the Post.
