BANISHED TO BERLIN.
General yon Falkenhausen, the new Governor of Belgium, ! finding that several Belgian officials opposed his plans for the partition of the country, has promptly had them banished to Berlin, where they aro now, apparently, in prison. Tho Glocke says: "We are in a position to state that in the course of the discussions which have taken place in Brussels between the Imperial Chancellor, the State Secretary of the Interior, and MajorGeneral Baron yon Falkenhausen, the partition of Belgium, into a Flemish section, with Brussels as the capital, and of a Walloon section, with Namur, was favourably considered. The one point on which no agreement was arrived at was that of determining the extent to Avhich it may be found practicable to carry out this scheme. Several Belgian officials have refused to co-operate in the partition, justifying their attitude on a manifesto issued by the Belgian Government, lodged in Havre, declaring participation in the partition to be a treasonable act. Certain of these recalcitrant Belgian officials have been conveyed to Berlin, and the question as to how the difficulties raised can be surmounted played a_ most important part in the deliberations before referred to.
