As a result of negotiations with tlie rival parties of Maoris represented by the prophet Rua and Kereru, tho Hon. Mr Carroll has succeeded in promoting peace between the rival factions. The announcement made by a Rua chief tliat ibis foloweirs would fall in with the Government's ideas for the settlement of the vast lands in tlio Urewera Country was received with an outburst of wild cheering by other natives, during which Rua's party chanted an old war song, signifying that the dispute was ended.
