Weight of Bacon Pigs.

Mr A. Richards, buyer for the Woodville Bacon Factory, writes as follows to the Manawatu Standard :— " As I have had numerous enquiries from farmers regarding the weight of the pigs I purchased at the Palmerston North Show.. I forward you particulars of the same : — BEST PEN OF 3 BACON PIGS. Ist prize, E. White (Berkshires), averaged 2121 bs. 2nd prize, E. White (Yorkshire Cross), averaged 2061 bs. V.h.c. S. E. Lancaster (Tamworth cross), averaged 1541b5. H.c, G-. Mueller (Berkshire cross), averaged 1501bs. S R Lancaster (Berkshive cross), averaged 14Slbs. REMARKS. E. White's pigs were far too heavy and and not sufficiently hardened. S R Lancaster's crossbred Tamworth's were exceedingly good pigs and nice weights. His entry of Berkshire pigs were also good quality. G. Mueller's pigs were well fed, but showed a slackness on the ribs and flanks. In conclusion, I beg to state, that should I have been judging, I would have placed S. R. Lancaster's crossbred Tamworths Ist, S. R. Lancaster's crossbred Berkshire 2nd, G. Mueller's crossbred Berkshire 3rd. Trusting that you will insert the foregoing for the benefit of pig raisers."
