Makino School Picnic

The Makino School Picnic which was held on Friday last was a most decided success. The children assembled in the schoolroom at three o'clock in the afternoon, and each received a gift from the Christmas Tree, the presentations being made by Mrs Fry. An adjournment was then made to Mr Pearson's paddock, where tea was provided for all comers. The usual games, races, and scrambles followed, and were entered into with enthusiasm by the youngsters, who enjoyed themselves to the top of their bent until about 10 p.m. From two to three hundred people, consisting of parents, children, and visitors were present. The good things provided in the way of eatables were the gifts of the settlers. Mr Linton, of the Kimbolton butchery presented a ham, which was much appreciated. The sum of £5 was subscribed by parents and friends, for making the Christmas Tree, and purchasing sweetmeats. Several members of the Makino Band were in attendance, and the music added greatly to the success of the Picnic.
