Suicide at Wellington

On Thursday afternoon the dead body of a man named William Martiii, a commercial traveller, until recently employed by Messrs Dawson and Co., was found in the Karori stream, where, it appears, the man had been drowned. Martin's clothes were lying on the bank except the socks, which he had kept on when he went into the water. The deceased (who was a widower, and leaves five children) resided in Vivian-street; and his life was insured in the Government office for £500. We learn that during a search of his house a piece of paper was found on which Martin had written directions for finding his body. Thus it is evident that he intended to commit suicide. At the inquest a verdict of " insanity" was given. — Times.
