Wellingtom, January 24. A fatal accident took place just before 11 a.m. at Hayman's brick store on Lambton Quay. The lift was sent up with a light load, and upon reaching the second floor the chain broke, in the lift were a boy and a man named William Kitchen. The former escaped with a few bruises but the latter was horribly mangled, and died instantly. Both thighs were broken, and ihe stomach torn open, and a ghastly wound on the head. It is not at present quite clear yet how Kitchen came to he killed, while the boy was merely bruised ; but it in probable that he wan crushed against the timber in the descent.

This Day. The Alameda left Frisco for Auckland and Sydney on January 16. One day late. The Mnriposa arrived at Frisco on January 22nd. One day before time table date.
