“GOD IS OUR HOPE”
IN THESE DARK DAYS OF WAR
NEED OF SPIRITUAL REAWAKENING
"The war is in its third year. When the statesmen of 19119 told us of their production plans for J 942, we thought they were awful pessimists, so they were, but of the constructive type, because they knew what we didn’t know, that this war will be a long one,” said the vicar of Pukekohe, the Rev. A. E. Prebble, at the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Andrew’s Church on Sunday evening.
"Already the war has taken its toll of our country’s finest manhood, and many hearts are saddened as a result. There are few of us who are not affected by the anxiety we all feel for relatives who are serving overseas, and we remember them constantly in our prayers. God and His church must in these dark days be our hope, our contidence, our strength and our comfort. We must hold our heads high and keep our faith firm. ‘ Above all we must sel an example to our fellow-citizens, especially to those who try to live without the happiness of religion in their lives, that by showing them the light of the Gospel in our lives they may be drawn to the light and throw in their lot boldly with us. That is the witness we must try to give, and that is the reward we can strive to win—the .joy of bringing others to the feet of Christ.” added Mr Prebble.
