In welcoming the Moderator, the Minister, the Rev. F. E. H. Paton, said he believed it was the first occasion on which a Moderator of the Church had preached from the pulpit of St. James. A former Moderator, however, had visited Pukekohe and had dedicated the Sunday school hall. All were delighted that the present Moderator had been able to pay an official visit to Pukekohe.

He, like his predecessors, was elected for a year and during that time he was expected to continue his parochial duties and to carry out his official duties as well. " He assured the congregation that the dual -duties entailed a good deal of sacrifice. He loved his parish work, but at the same time was enjoying the experience of visiting the various churches. He conveyed the greetings of the Assembly to St. James parishioners and congratulated them and their minister on the splendid work they were doing in Pukekohe district.
