“STICK IT OUT”
HOME GUARD AND EQUIPMENT “MIGHT- HAVE TO FIGHT” Referring to the work of the E.P.S. and the Home Gruard at the extraordinary general meeting of the Dominion council of the N.Z.R.S.A. on Wednesday, the president, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C said that members of the Home Guard must assume that the Government was doing its best to assure that the Home Guard would have equipment as soon as possible. He personally knew that tremendous efforts had been made and that no stone was being left unturned. He asked soldiers of the last war who were in the Home Guard to be a stabilising influence oq other members. They must exercise patience. They should remember that Hitler in 1933 trained his army without much equipment. He introduced conscription, and shovels and picks were used to train the men in military movements, and particularly in the moving of large bodies of men expeditiously'from place to place. In view of the fact that the Home Guard might have to fight in New Zealand, it should be provided with equipment as soon as possible, but men in the Home Guard now must realise that they must stay in it, and train, until the equipment arrived, as much valuable time would be saved.
