A CHEESE FACTORY

TO BE ESTABLISHED AT BUCKLAND READY BY NOVEMBER ERECTION OF WORK Elk” COTTAGES It is understood tha* Hie old casein factory at Buekland is to be reconditioned and*converted to a cheese factory, and that, cheese-making operations will begin early in November. Already Public Works Department employees are on the spot and are engaged in erecting cottages for the cheese factory workers who will be stationed at: Buekland. From what can be gathered it is.intended to handle the milk,.from over 4000 cows, whicn it is estimated are within a four-miles radius of the factory. To handle this volume of milk it is believed arrangements will be made for double shifts at the factory and that the milk will he collected at farmers’ gales twice a day —morning and evening.

The change-over from butler to cheese will mean a hardship to a number of suppliers but it is felt by many that this sacrifice in the national interests will constitute their war effort.
