PAPAKURA CLUB’S EVENTS EASTERN MONARCH’S SUCCESS ! i TREBLE TO AC CIVIL There were plenty of thrills in the principal event, the open hurdles, at the fortnightly fixture of the Papakura Greyhound Racing Club, conducted at Massey Park on Saturday. ; In the final. Air .1. Robertson’s champion. Black Flash, crashed at the first hurdle, and Air W. Smith’s good performer. Black Musk, met a similar fate at Hie third. Afr R. Kilgour’s Skillie led at (lie first hurdle, but Black Musk came again and took the j lead between the second and third I hurdles. Black Alusk then hit the third hurdle and somersaulted. Skittle and Eastern Atonarcb then fought it cut. Eastern Monarch out-jumping Skittle over Hie last sticks to win. A fine performance, however, was put up by Black Musk in the first heat when he recorded the great time of 23 seconds, only one-fifth off the record for the 375 yard track in hurdle racing. Tn one race only half a nose separated the winner from number two. but in others there was plenty of daylight between the winning dog and the next. Biplane (Mrs R. Kilgour) and Black Flash (Mr J. Robertson) ran -the limit and open consolation races in the remarkably fast time of 21s —only one second outside the record.
The local owner, Mr AT. Civil, of Beach Road, had three successes, winning the maiden hurdles, puppy race and maiden and novice consolation flat race with Rebel ATate. Proud Fox and Fine Arf respectively.
