NOTES FROM BUCKLAND \ Presentation made A social evening was held in the Buckland hall on Tuesday evening in honour of Miss Edith Holland, who is about to be married to Mr Trevor Besant. Bridge and five hundred were played in the supper room, Mrs Squires and Mr C. Butcher being the winners. The young folk indulged in dancing. Mrs S. Lowrie, Mrs Harrision (piano), Mr W. Svversion (drums) and Mr .7. King (accoredon) supplied good music. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Mclndoe and Mr G. Barrett. Items included some clever dancing by little Dawn and Raymond Lowrie and Miss ,!<;a'n Harrison sang “Red, White and Blue” and “The Ships in Port Again”; Mr Craig, “Sally. Horner”; Mr Syverston,'•“’Gould Adolph do it?” and “Old Home Town.”

-Before the supper adjournment Mr Tl. Wilcox, president of the Welfare League, asked Miss Holland and Mr Besant to come to the stage. He spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Holland’s help in the different organisations in Buckland—and asked her to accept a. silver entree dish on behalf of the league members with all best wishes for her future happiness. Mr Besant thanked all for their kind wishes and the beautiful present. This was followed by the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Just before the presentation Mr B. Syverslon said that Miss Holland was the last of the eight girls with whom he had first worked in Buckland in arranging concerts to help Hie various organisations. Mr Syverslon said they were a willing lot to work with and the results were as good as any in the larger towns. Dancing was continued after supper and the function concluded - with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
