AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
INTER-CLUB FIXTURE MEETING AT PAPAKURA j SOUTH SUBURBAN EVENTS Under ideal weather conditions the fourth of a series of inter-club scratch meetings of the South Suburban Amateur Athletic Association was held at : Prince Edward Park, Papakura, an i Wednesday evening. The fixture was postponed last Wednesday on account of a defective light and inclement weather. A feature of the meeting was T,he improved position of Papakura who made a good showing against Ellerslie. Oiahuhu. Papatoetoe. and Manure wa. so good that the local club came second to Ellerslie on points. Ellerslie and Papakura fielded hue largest teams. The total points for the meeting were: Ellerslie, 78 points—to date 2335; Otahuhu. 27 (185): Papatcetoe. 22 (123): Manurewa, 18 (77-1): Papakura. 37 (52). Generally, the times were good, and many close and exciting finishes were witnessed by a large crowd. i
The president, Mr F. Osborne, welcomed the visitors and officials after the parade and complimented the local athletes for turning out in such large numbers. Standard times were equalled in the ladies’ 75 yards A grade, -the 100 yards senior A grade and 100 yards junior A grade by Miss M.* Grindrocl of Otahuhu, J. McManus (Ellerslie) and R. E. Kirk (Ellerslie) respectively. Papakura piled up points in the 100 yards final C grade event. M. Middleton. L. White and O. McGregor being placed in the three positions. The large programme of 44 events, including six children’s and four cycle races and heats were run off in the remarkably good time of just under three hours.
