MR J. PATERSON HONOURED

THURSDAY NIGHT’S PRESENTATION One of the P'apakura Athletic Club’s most successful runners, Mr ,1. Paterson. was farewelleil on Thursday evening at a dance held by the Papakura Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club prior to his leaving for England next week by the Rangitane to join the Royal Air Force. The president, Mr F. Osborne, in making a presentation of an inscribed camera on behalf of the club, said he hoped the camera would remind Mr Paterson of many pleasant times spent with the club. He remarked that it seemed strange that whenever the club got a good man somehow or another they always got a position which took them away. However the club wished “John” the best of success in the air force and hoped after his four years’ service they would see him again. “If he achieves as much success in the air as on the land, well he’ll go a long way and make a name for himself,” said Mr Osborne api id applause. Mr Paterson thanked his fellow members for their gift, which he would treasure very much. Musical honours followed.
