SIXTH BIRTHDAY PARTY
LAST WEEK’S CELEBRATION
The Buckland Women’s Institute held their sixth birthday party in the Buckland hall on Thursday afternoon, visitors being present from Pukekohe, Tuakau and Bombay Institutes, Buckland’s tittle sister institute of Kaiaua, "X Pukekohe, Whangarata and Pukekohe East Women’s Divisions.
The afternoon was quite informal. Mrs A. F; Hewitt, president ot the Auckland Institute, welcomed the visitors and read an apology for absence from Mrs N.' R. McElwain. president of the Auckland District Federation, who was unable to be present on account of family illness. The programme opened with the peace verse of the National Anthem. After business had been disposed of Mj SS N. Jamieson rendered pianoforte solos which were much enjoyed. The little sisters of Kaiaua had to repeat their Maori action songs and Samoan lullaby; members of the Buckland Institute presented a very amusing mime; Mrs Craig of Buckland. gave two very enjoyable elocutionary items, “Mrs ’Arris Flies to Paris” and' “Nini, Ninette and ■ Mignone” ; Miss G. Piggot 'of Auckland, gave musical j terns, “The Sea” and “Rush Hour in HongKong”; the children from the Buckland school ..gave two dances, Sellenger’s round, and a folk dance. A recitation by Miss N. Bilkey and a song by Miss J. Rogers, “Waving Corn,” completed a most enjoyable programme. Competitions, the winners being drawn by little Miss J. Ewing, of Whangarata, resulted in Mrs Beasley 1 of Kaiaua institute, and Mrs Taylor of Pukekohe division, being successful. Mrs Hewitt lit the candles and Beasley of'Kaiaua, extinguished them. Afternoon tea was dispensed by members of the committee and was ! much appreciated.
