MANGATAWHIRI NOTES.
GOLF CLUB ACTIVITIES. On Saturday the Mangatawhiri Golf Club held its first competition for trophies presented by Mr T. G. Seed (vice-president). There was a large attendance of members and the weather conditions were ideal for golfing. The competition was a medal one of nine holes and some of the cards handed in showed a high standard of play. The ladies' competition resulted in a tie between Mrs K. A. Murray and Miss V. Aldred, who later played off, Miss Aldred winning by two strokes. The scores were:.Mrs K. A. Murray, gross 57, handicap 32, nett 25: Miss V. Aldred, 53—28 —25. The play off resulted Miss V. Aldred, 55 — 28—27; Mrs K. A. Murray, 61—32 29.
The winner of the men's competition was J. Buckingham, with A. Pope runner up. The details are: Buckingham, gross 55, handicap 24, nett 34; Pope, 57 —24 —33. J. Moyle handed in the best card of the day, his score being, 39 —4—35. During afternoon tea the trophies were presented to the winners by Mrs Seed. ;
..The social club's weekly meeting held on Thursday last, included community singing, play-reading and dancing, the plays read being "A Little Fowl Play" and "The Village Fire Brigade." The usual light refreshments completed excellent arrangements and a very happy time was spent by every member and friend present. As a farewell to Mr R. S. Mackie, a popular member of the club, who Is abouf to leave the district, the next social on Thursday, August 4, will take the form of an open dance evening.
