KING’S BIRTHDAY.
OBSERVED AT CHRIST CHURCH. VICAR’S INSPIRING ADDRESS. The King’s birthday was observed at Christ Church, Papakura, on Sunday evening, the vicar, the Rev. W. C. Wood, delivering a special and inspiring address. Some interesting remarks were made on the subject of “Limited Monarchy,” the speaker pointing out that the effect was that the actual power of the King grew out of his personal influence over his Ministers.
“Speaking generally,” said Mr Wood, “Great Britain in the Providence of God, had been wonderfully blessed in her rulers, and in a very marked degree in our present King. As head of the Royal Household he has set a very high standard; he has been an example of unflinching devotion to duty, and through his ceaseless recognition of his responsibility' for public welfare he has retained the trust and confidence of the whole nation.”
“There is something at the back of Divine Right,’’ said Mr Wood. “The King is more than a Commander-in-Chief; he is a guide and example Lo his people.” “Honour the King” is a divine injunction and we as a people are fortunate in the fact that we have a King who Is worthy of kingship.” The service closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
