NEW ECONOMIC EPOCH PLANNED FOR GERMANS OF WESTERN ZONES
(Rec. 11 a.m.) FRANKFURT, June 25. The British chairman of the German Bi-zonal Control Group, General Sir Gordon Macready, told the German Bi-zonal Economic Council at its first meeting that it was the beginning of a new epoch for Germany. Economic improvement would, he hoped, be felt within a few months. The United States chairman of the oontrol group, General Adcock, said the council must try to mobilise the resources of the two zones. The Economic Council had been established as a representative German body to direct “ permissible economic reconstruction ” of the fused Anglo-Ameri-enu zones. Tlio Prime Minister of Greater Hesse. Dr Christian Stock, in opening the council’s meeting, said the fusion of all the German States into an economic and political entity was necessary before the people could regain prosperity Germans would try to work out their own economic salvation, but they needed help from the occupying Powers. The _ council elected Erich Koehler, a Christian Socialist member of the Hesse State Legislature, as the first president.
