PORT CHALMERS RESIDENTS TO RE-ENACT LANDING OF PIONEERS
All Port Chalmers churches should be asked to hold special services on the morning of Sunday, March 21, said the mayor (Mr H. S. Watson) in making recommendations to a meeting of the Port Chalmers Centennial Committee, over which he presided. He was reporting in his capacity of convener of the Programme Committee. The local celebrations should be confined to March, 23, he said, and the suggestion was that the main features should be a re-fenactment of the landing of the pioneers, followed by a pageant of progress in procession form. The afternoon would be devoted to the entertainment of the children. It was suggested that a period dress ball ;be held in the evening, to be preceded by a fireworks display.—The report was adopted. The convener of the Historical Committee (the Rev. H. O. Bowman) reported a good deal of interest in the project ■, and said that material was steadily being gathered.
