PIOKWORTH LIFTS RICH PRIZE SYDNEY, April 20. With a brilliant round of 69, two under par, for a total of 294, H. Pickworth, the Australian open golf champion, won the Ampo! £I,OOO professional tournament at Kensington yesterday. The feature of the day’s play, however, was E. Cremin’s 66, which shattered Pickworth’s course record by three strokes. The New Zealander, Alec Murray, finished fourth, equal with iR. Want, Queensland. His first day’s score of 82 should have put him well out of the running, but he recovered magnificently with rounds o( 75, 73, and 75. He played masterly golf yesterday to be two under par to the twelfth hole, but then he seemed to tire. After a par 71 on the fifth day, Cremin crashed With an 85 on the second day in wind and rain squalls. Y’es-
terday he fought doggedly to overhaul Pickworth’s Out in 34, he returned an amazing 32 for the second half, scoring seven birdies. Pickworth, however, played with complete confidence to equal his own previous record, and his round included five birdies. W. Bolger revealed the form which enabled him to beat Gerte Sarazen in the 1934 open to take second place. He stroked his shots beautifully, but lost opportunities on the greens, duo to timid putting. The New Zealaiider, A. E. Guy, followed a disastrous 82 wtih a 78, which placed him well back in the field. The principal scores were:—H. Pickworth (Victoria) 69—294, W.
