DELAYED LITIGATION
LAW SOCIETY’S PROTEST (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 4. The following resolution was cax-ried to-day at the annual general meeting of the Wellington District Law Society:— “ That this general meeting of the Wellington District Law Society draws the urgent attention of the Government to the serious inconvenience which is. being caused to litigants and the public generally resulting from the delay in disposing of cases before the Supreme Court and Compensation Court, and protests strongly against any permanent appointment to judicial office of any person who is not at the time of appointment actively engaged in practice at the Bar.” Other resolutions adopted were as follows:—“ That this meeting draws the urgent attention of the Government to the serious shortage of magistrates in the Wellington district, and particularly in the Hutt Valley, which has resulted in serious delays in the disposal of the business of the Magistrate’s Court and serious inconvenience to litigants and the public generally.” “ That this meeting disapproves in the strongest terms of the amending of Acts of Parliament by Order in Council or the making of positive enactments beyond matters of administration by the same means.”
