TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMMES

REGENT. Warner Bros.’ comedy romance, < The Very Thought of You,’ which will be shown at the Regent to-morrow, tells of the escapades and love aitairs of two soldiers home again from the war. As the army sergeant, Dennis Morgan needs no introduction, and sharing top honours with him is Eleanor Parker. That grand old actor, Henry Travers, as Pop, is an easy thing for the family, Andrea King as sister Molly, a good-time girl, is set on forgetting li6r soldier husband; Beulah° Bondi becomes frightened at what the neighbours maw think; John Alvin is sore at the world for not thinking him man enough to fight, and ray Emerson, as Oora, a clever child who knows all the answers. Last, but not least, is Morgan’s pal, Dane Clark, whose robust comedy performance as Fixit seems like the healthy echo ot (Bob Hope. A -specially-selected _nrst half includes ‘Six Hits and a Miss . a dancing extravaganza in lavish settings, ‘ Ski Whizz, a bright film which captures all the excitement or this thrilling sport, and the latest Metro Airmail News. EMPIRE. Hollywood’s comedy champions, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, will appear on the screen at the Empire to-morrow in ‘ Little Giant,’ which can be described as the laugh surprise of the season. Outdoing the previous Abbott and Costello films, the new vehicle has a cremiine plot, love interest, scheming villains, and “ mom’s ” affection. Costello has the rple of a farm boy who takes lessons in salesmanship from phonograph records, and starts oft to the big citv to make his fortune. As might be expected, there lie meets Bud Abbott, who appears m two roles, both of which make things tough _ for the ambitious yokel. The climax is a combination of heart throbs, mirth and downright thrills. Brenda Joyce, Jacqueline de Wit, and Elena Verdugo have the leading feminine ro es. Mary Gordon and George Cleveland are other favourites in the splendid cast.

ST. JAMES. The outstanding comedy -film. ‘ Demobbed,’ which has been showing to capacity houses, will commence its fifth week’s screening at the St. James tomorrow. ‘ Demobbed has broken all previous records for the St. James, and has already been shown to more than 40,000 people. The story concerns the hectic misadventures ot tour privates when they are discharged from the British Army and are directed to employment at a huge factory. The roles of the four clowns are played by Norman Evans, the outstanding Royal Command performer, who made tlieir Majesties the King and Queen lau-Wi heartily; Natt Jaekley, eccentric 0 comedian; Dan Young, renowned on the English stage as the greatest dude comic of all time; and Tony Dal-

ton, a miniature rib-tickler, lo add to the excellent comedy entertainment of the. film there is the appearance of the romantic vocalists, Webster Booth and Anne Ziegler. STATE. Starring Alice Faye, Dana Andrews and Linda Darnell, ‘ Fallen Angel, which, will open a season at the State to-morrow, reveals the shocking tale of a girl whose loye for a man is haunted by the irrepressible hold the terrible fascination of another woman has on him; of a man who can only be freed from the overpowering obsession by murder; and of another girl whose sultry beauty and warm, inviting embrace hold the promise of tragedy. Thanks to the brilliance of the stars and to Director-producer Otto Preminger, who created ‘ Laura,' ‘ Fallen Angel ’ emerges as taut, swiftly-paced, and absorbing drama.; To her already outstanding musical laurels, Miss Faye now adds top dramatic honours with a performance that is a triumph of understanding and conviction.. A brilliant supporting cast is headed by Charles Bickford, Anne Revere, Bruce Cabot, John Carradine, and Percy Kilbride. OCTAGON. • Love Story,’ the stellar attraction in to-morrow’s change of programme at the Octagon, though riot described as a musical film, is said to use music in a way which enhances and accentuates the feelings of the characters in the story. Margaret Lockwood, as Lissa, the pianist, goes to Cornwall on holiday and, with what she supposes to be only one year of life before her, meets an emotional experience of such strength that she is inspired to write a piano concerto, into which her love for Kit, and her feeling of freedom underneath the Cornish skies are poured. The result is ‘ Cornish Rhapsody,’ written for ‘ Love Story by Hubert Bath and played by the National Symphony Orchestra. Starring witli Margaret Lockwood is Stewart Granger, and prominent parts are assigned to Tom Walls and Patricia Roc. STRAND.

Two outstanding features, ‘ On Stage Everybody ’ and ‘ The Jade Mask,’ will provide excellent entertainment in to-morrow’s change of programme at. the Strand. The former, is a spectacular version of the famous radio programme of the same name, in which Jack Oakie, Peggy Ryan, and Johnny Coy are starred. Other notables in the cast include Otto Kruger, Julie London, Esther Dale, Wallace Ford, and the celebrated King Sisters. Thirteen musical numbers and a multitude of novel situations are cleverly blended in the fast-moving plot. A lavish swimming pool sequence is one of the film’s outstanding features. The second .production, ‘ The Jade Mask,’ is a Charlie Chan thriller, with Sidney Toler in the role of Charlie Chan.
