Palestine railways were brought to a standstill when all employees struck in sympathy with the postal and telegraph workers, says Reuter's Jerusalem correspondent. Port workers in Haifa also joined in the strike. The train service between Egypt and Palestine is suspended. One train stopped at Lydda, and passengers for Jerusalem and Haifa had to continue their journey by road. More than 3,000 junior Civil servants in North Palestine stopped work, and Government employees in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv have been warned to be ready to stop work. The number of Government employees striking is estimated at more than 10,000. A Palestine Government communique states that the railway workers struck without formal declaration of their demands. Jewish and Arab postal strikers are. reported to have rejected the Government's compromise proposals, and voted for continuance of the strike.
