“CHRISTIAN COMMANDOS”
METHODIST MINISTERS' CAMPAIGN SURPRISE VISITS TO HOTEL BARS LONDON, April 15. A group of six Methodist ministers who are members of "The Christian Commandos" launched a campaign during the week-end when they made surprise visits to Plymouth public houses. Led by the Rev. Wilfred Shep. herd, of Carlisle, they surprised customers by walking in and lining up at the bar. ' One carried a piano-accordion and started community hymn singing, followed by a prayer and a talk. " "We feel we must bridge the gap between the Church and the public house," said Dr W. H. Mildon, "and we come as friends." . They were given a good reception and "shouted" by customers. They drank lemonade.
