SHIPPING PARALYSED 92 M.P.H. GALE AND TORRENTIAL RAIN (Rec. 12.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 16. A southerly storm, with torrential rain and heavy seas, has brought coastal shipping in the Sydney and Newcastle areas to & standstill. No small ships left Sydney Harbour yesterday. • At Nobbys, the gale reached a velocity of 92 miles an hour. Flood damage caused some householders in the Myall River district to seek shelter on higher ground. An inch of rain fell in Sydney in nine hours yesterday, and,poor light resulted from economy cuts being mado in light and power during daylight hours. ' A landslide near Paterson, on the north coast, caused a railway engine to capsize, killing the driver. The gales and rain continue to-day.
