CHARGED FOR EXECUTIONS
FAMILIES OF ANTI-NAZI MARTYRS INCREDIBLE SADISM (Rec. noon.) LONDON, April 15. The families of anti-Nazi martyrs had to pay £ls for their execution. This, says ! the Exchange Telegraph's Nuremberg correspondent, was revealed in records now in the hands of the War Crimes Tribunal. The records also show that the families had to pay 1s 6d daily for the prisoners' upkeep. The Nazis sent detailed bills to the families, setting out every horrible circumstance of the executions; for instance, the washing off of blood and final cleaning. A typical statement of account was sent by the court cashier at Berlin on February 1.5, 1945, addressed to the widow of Anton Slavki, the former director of the Brno broadcastnig station. It sets out charges as follows: —For the death sentence, 300 marks; defence counsel, 82 marks;. transport, 33 marks; imprisonment for 986 days, 1,479 marks; execution, including a fee for a last wish, travelling expenses, and printing of a poster, 145 marks. The widow had to pay £lO3 for her husband's imprisonment and execution. The Czech authorities hope the attention of the Nuremberg tribunal will be drawn not only to the physical atrocities committed by the Nazis, but the sadistic mental torture inflicted on innocent people.
