DESERTING IN DOMINION
BRITISH SEAMEN'S OBJECTIVE (P:A.) AUCKLAND, April 16 " We have been faced with a large number of desertions recently and it would seem that British seamen, are deliberately signing articles .in Britain for a round voyage with the intention of deserting in New Zealand and settling in the country," said Mr J. Banks, representing the New Zealand Shipping- Company, with reference to two cases of desertion before Mr Sinclair, S.M., this morning. The men were John Charles Little (26), and Ronald Leonard Spruhan (23), both seamen. They were convicted and admitted to probation for 12 months, a condition being that they be placed on the first available ship.
