WAR MARRIAGE DISSOLVED
FIRST CASE UNDER NEW REGULATIONS U.S. MARINE'S INFIDELITIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 16. The first woman to take advantage in Wellington of the Matrimonial Causes (War Marriages) Emergency Regulations gazetted last week was f ranted a decree nisi yesterday by Mr ustice Johnston in the Supreme Court. The '[petitioner was a young woman who had married a member of the United States Marines in January, 1944. The advantage she obtained from the regulations was that her New Zealand domicile enabled her to proceed in a New Zealand court. Had the regulations not been introduced she, being the wife of an American citizen, would have had to have United States domicile. The petition was not defended. Respondent left New Zealand in the month following marriage. In an affidavit he admitted misconduct in America with at least two women, and this was supported by statements by two other men. Petitioner gave evidence that' her husband had told her in a letter of his misconduct and his desire for divorce. The decree nisi is to be made absolute after the expiry of three months.
