The gulf between Labour and the Communists had not been narrowed since the General Election, says a letter from the Labour Party Executive informing the Communist Party that the executive had turned down the application for affiliation. The letter, which was addressed to the secretary, of the Communist Party, Mr Pollitt, says the executive could not recommend affiiliation with another political party which has a separate philosophy, programme, leadership, and also organisation. The events of the last 25 years had left the executive with no, doubt that both the immediate programme and the long-term aims of the Communists differ fundamentally from those of Labour. The General Election had amply demonstrated the ineffectiveness and political incapacity of the Communist Party, and had also showed that unification of labour behind the Labour Party had been achieved-
