ONE "SCHOONER" EACH
ARRANGEMENT WITH HOTELS (Ree. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 24. v Customers of three Lidconib hotels took action recently when, as a protest against alleged unnecessary restrictions in beer drinking hours, they declared the hotels black, and picketed them. The ban has just been withdrawn when local publicans told a deputation they would serve beer from 4 p.m. each day. Another hotel serving men from a ?ram depot and glassworks has had the boycott lifted for 14 days following a meeting between customers' representatives and the licensee, conditional on a complicated series.of rules being observed. During week days beer will be on sale for three periods daily of half an hour each, during which small glasses will bo used, and for one " schooner " period of_ an hour. Saturday's programme ent'ails the serving of beer in small glasses from noon until the supply is finished. _ Each workshop is displaying a notice that each man is in honour bound to take one schooner only and then leave the counter to make room for someone else. Despite being in the busy indusfrial area, this hotel received only 1,046 gallons of beer weekly.
