GOVERNMENT CONTROL TO BE REDUCED (ißec. 12.5 p.m.) TOKIO. October 17. The Japanese Government proposes to introduce legislation in the next session of the Diet reducing Government control of the Bank of Japan, making it more of a public institution, reports the Domei Agency. The inreports the Domei Agency. The Government's .investment of 53,000,000 yen of the total capital of 100,000,000 will be shared with private banks.
The Mitsui, Mitsubishi. Subitomo, and Yasuda holding companies decided to offer all their shares for sale to the public. The ' Yomiuri Hochi' comments that the steps taken are not enough. A basis should be formed foi State ownership of important industries, large banks, and trust companies. . General MacArthur has directed the freeing of Japan's film industry from Government domination in order to permit- it to reflect the people's democratic .aspirations. The laws allowing films to be used as a propaganda medium are abolished. The Domei Agency reports that one Japanese was killed and 300 injured .in an unexplained explosion in the Okayama ordnance depot.
