COMMITTEE HEARS APPEALS

The Industrial Man-power Committee —Messrs M. W. Grantham, chairman, A. Mcßae, H. H. Gillard—met this morning to hear appeals against the directions and decisions of the manpower officer, who was represented by Mr A. G. Lytte. Decision was reserved in the appeal of James Smith Chalmers against refusal of permission to terminate, his employment with E., Jensen Ltd. Thomas M. Gillespie appealed against the direction that a fine of 9s Id be deducted from his wages as a penalty for absenteeism. His appeal was not allowed.

The appeal of Boots Ltd against the direction of Miss Noelino E. Moody, senior toilet assistant, to employment at the Roslyn Woollen Mills was not allowed, Miss Bloody to take up her emplovment at the mills on Januarv 10 1945. Decision was reserved, pending a medical examination, in the appeal of Mrs Oben and the New Zealand WaxVesta Co. against the direction of LeysonC. Oben, at present employed by the Wax Vesta Co. to J. C. Laureiison and Son Ltd as a baker.

The appeal of Godfrey J. McNabb against refusal of permission to terminate his employment with J. McGregor and Co. Ltd. ■ was not allowed.

The appeal of T. A. Greaney against a fine for absenteeism from employment at Reid and Gray Ltd. was adjourned till December 12, and the appeal of Miss Vera Mathewson against refusal of permission to terminate her employment with D. H. Blackie Ltd. was adjourned till January 16y 1945. The committee declined to hear the appeal of tho New Zealand Railways Department against refusal of permission to reduce the rate of pay of Alexander Hodges as the department failed to show sufficient reason why the appeal was not lodged within the regulation period of seven days.
