CATTLE IN DEMAND
SUBSIDE STOCK SALE STRONG SHEEP SECTION At the Burnside stock sales to-day there was an average yarding of cattle, totalling 300. The bulk of the yarding was mostly of medium quality, there being only three to four trucks ,of extra heavy cattle. Cows and heifers were in shorter supply than usual. The market opened with been competition, values being above those of last week, and this level was fairly well maintained throughout. Extra prime bullocks realised up to £22 2s 6d, prime £l7 17s Gd to £2O 7s Gd, medium £ls 17s Gd to £l6 17s 6d, and light from £lO 17s Gd. Extra prime cows to £l3 17s 6d, prime; £9 lis Gd to £ll 12s Gd, medium £7 17s Gd to £8 17s 6d, and light from £6 7s Gd. Extra prime heifers from £l4 17s Gd, prime £lO 7s 6d to £l2 17s 6d, medium £8 2s 6d to £9 12s Gd, light from £G 12s Gd. There was an average yarding of fat sheep, including a number of pens of very choice ewes. Wethers were short of requirements. There was a particularly good sale, prices being above last week's parity. Good quality wethers realised up to 43s 3d, prime 39s to 41s Gd, medium 34s Gd to 375, and light from 27s to 28s. Extra prime ewes to 36s 6d, prime 29s to 33s 6d, medium 25s to 2Gs 9d, and light to 21s. The yarding of store cattle was a small one, there being only a few pens of mixed descriptions, three-year-old steers fetching from £9 5s to £lO 2s 6d, and two.to two and a-half-year-old £7 5s to £8 ss. The yarding of baconers was a small one, and for these there was a particularly good demand. Best baconers realised up to £8 10s, prime £6 10s to £7 10s, medium £5 to £5 15s, and light front £4 17s. There was a small yarding of store pigs, good vealers realising from 17s Gd to 245.
