GOVERNMENT PURCHASE FROM U.S. BRISK DEMAND IN CITY STORES Recently tho Government purchased from America a large consignment of towels of all varieties, whjch were sold to the retail trade in all parts of the Dominion. A proportion of the towels for Dnnedin reached the city yesterday and were on sale to-day. There is at'present a brisk demand for the main household " terry " towel; which is being sold at 7s 3d. It is interesting to note that the Price Tribunal price for this towel was 7s 6d, but when one firm, operating throughout New Zealand decided to sell the line at the lower figure, the rest of the trad© followed suit. Towels have been in short supply for some time, and housewives will welcome the opportunity to purchase this article, which is of first-class quality, definitely superior to any towel sold at the same price in recent years. Further supplies have been promised, and retailers expect to receive consignments of towels of different sizes in the same quality at an early date.

RELEASE OF TEA TOWELS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 12. Tho Hon. D. G. Sullivan stated that the release of tea towels was following almost immediately, and these should bo available throughout tho Dominion within a fortnight. However, there were some stocks of tea towels in tho country, and the distribution was not quite so urgent. Mr Sullivan indicated that the order placed with the American authorities was for 3,000,000 towels and 1,500,000 yards of towelling. Of those quantities 2,000,000 towels and 500,000 yards of towelling had already arrived, and were being, distributed. The balance of the order was expected to arrive in the near future.
