BUS FOR EMPLOYEES
CONDUCTRESSES ON LATE SHIFT SUGGESTION TO CITY COUNCIL A suggestion that the. transport department should provide a bus at night to run tramway employees as near to their homes as possible was made at the meeting of the City Council last night by Cr W. B. Taverner. He said he was referring particularly to conductresses. He understood .that the late shift workers did not conclude their duties until nearly midnight. With the winter coming on he thought it would be a graceful gesture if the council gave them assistance in reaching their homes. The chairman of the committee (Cr M. 0. Henderson) seid if such facilities were provided for the conductresses, who were paid exactly the same wages as the men, the men would have an equal claim. It had never been suggested that the council should provide conveyance. No bus was on tha road-so late, and it would have to be provided specially. If it had to be done it would probably pay the department to hire taxis rather than run a special bus. However, the committee would consider the matter.
